Henri Matisse La Danseuse Creole Lithograph Poster
This colourful original Matisse lithograph was commissioned by the French Government to promote tourism. The vintage poster depicts the original art taken from Matisse’s 1950 Gouache and cut-out work entitled ‘La Danseuse Creole’ which he donated to the Musee Matisse in 1953. Produced for the Museé Matisse in Nice as publicity material by the Commissariat General au Tourisme to promote the French Riviera. The subject is well-known dancer Katherine Dunham, whom Matisse had seen perform.
